On Saturday night I had this weird dream of being in this strange house (and I've been in this house before other dreams) where I recall having fun walking around exploring its empty rooms. I don't know where this dream came from. Feels a bit like a page out of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe where the kids explore the back of the cupboard to find a new place.
I realise that a lot of my entries centre around my childhood days. I often wonder why this is so. I think I must have had quite a happy and fulfilling childhood that's why. If I could identify a point in time where I stopped being a happy little kid, I think it would probably be my return to Malaysia and entry into Sec 1. Think I stopped having fun after that.
I think a part of me refuses to grow up and face the world. That's probably why half the time I'm super childish. What's wrong with that? Nothing what. I'm a kid earning a comfortable salary - isn't that fun?
Anyway, this Blog has therefore been renamed to reflect what the contents show since I hardly ever talk about beer or choir anyway.
I feel like Michael Jackson - minus the alleged paedophilic tendancies of course. This is a nice song which fits the current mood of things:
"Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for the world that I come from
'Cause I've been looking around
In the lost and found of my heart...
No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...
People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate, for the Childhood
I've never known... "

Faeces
This morning as I walked to work I walked past a row of shops. Then I saw something on the floor that looked like Mutton Curry....until I went nearer...it smelt like SHIT....
and then I saw that there was a pile of it in front of the door of every shop along the walkway....it was disgusting and I almost puked out my breakfast from the smell.
Speaking of faeces, this is what my mom wrote about my dog to my sis harhar it's quite funny

"This morning me and daddy bathe [dog's name] coz she has so......many ticks? on her body. Bought one tick lotion and apply to her body. naughty dog giving me a lot of problem. Everyday have to clean her eyes otherwise she cant open her eyes and she will sulk and refuse to eat if no body cleans her eyes. Sometimes she will complain to [my part time maid] that her eyes has not been wiped so [the part time maid] will do for her."
Dog's so cute. She's like 10 years old. Gonna drop dead soon.

Discoveries
I love it when I meet fellow Malaysian professionals. They bring a very different perspective into daily conversations and make for much more interesting people to talk to. Just met one in the pantry today while I was getting my coffee fix. I shall have to fix lunch soon.

Memories
With all this instant communication nowadays, letters are such a rarity. I think kids 5 years my junior (hint hint orangecow and gang) and below are probably a generation of kids who never knew what letters were. I know my sister grew up on the Internet.
I was clearing all my stuff in the office and found my personal file where I had kept letters sent to me since I was 12, as well as stuff I sent out. Here's an excerpt of one I wrote in 1997 when I first arrived in Singapore:
"On the first day I arrived, I was really surprised at how many ASEAN scholars there were. My college, which was the most numerous of the lot, consisted of 13 guys and 9 girls. There were other colleges, each with 5 - 10 students. All our seniors were there to meet us and help us carry our bags. We were bus-ed off to our respective hostels, and then the eniors told us how unlucky we were to be posted to the strictest hostel in Singapore - St Patrick's Boys' Hostel. more on that later. Anyway, we unpacked our stuff and that was the first day ever.
On the second day, we were shown around our colelge and some places to shop (for essential stuff lah! NOT Orchard Road). Our principal, Mrs. Lee gave us a talk about the college and stuff. When I came here, I expected the College to be a multi-storey building 'cos land is expensive. Imagine my surprise when I found a huge compound all belonging to the school!
They got a huge football field, a running track, a canteen which sells food cheaper than Malaysia, a gym, an air'cond library, non-air cond classrooms, a comp. lab, where every computer is linked to a printer, and one of them has an Epson Stylus Colour printer (speaking of which I'm using that printer right now printing a calender for myself - in glorious colour, maximising usage of available facilities...totally wasting expensive ink...), ONE measly computer serving the whole school for Internet usage, toilets with TOILET PAPER!!!!!! What else ah? Aiyah, basically college is fantastic. "
(I thought the toilet paper part was very funny....)
The letter goes on to describe my first ever P.E. lessons:
"Did I tell you that there was a P.E. test coming up? Guess not. There's no P.E. sessions every morning, but there is a P.E. double period every week, compulsory of course. Warm up is something like 3 rounds around the running track, which is 400m x 3 = 1200 m. ARRRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!! Right. the P.E. test. Only heard about it when I got here. It's a m.f.-ing stupid test to test my fitness. duh. I'm gonna fail so miserably and it's gonna be embarrassing. If youfail, you've gotta go for "remedial lessons" i.e. pure torture until you pass that damn m.f.-ing test. Guess what m.f-ing means? I'll give you a hint - it's not nice). By the time I finish A-levels, I'm gonna be all skin and bones. That is, if I don't quit halfway".
Haha....ok I wasn't skin and bones by the time I finished A-levels, and I never did pass the damn "m.f.-ing P.E. test", and I went for P.E. S-paper for 2 years. Who gives a toss.

Jealous Green Monster Strikes Again
Today I found out my friend from another company got a similar pay rise as me. Nothing wrong with that, except that for the past 6 months he went home at about 7 pm on average, whereas I went home on average at 11 pm-12 midnight, if not later. Now I am jealous. I shouldn't be, but I am. Bad Bad Bad.....

Estonia
Picked up a guide book over the weekend on Estonia. It sounds really fascinating in the guide books...like some far away undiscovered magical land...I feel like visiting.
Anyway, today is a happy Monday. Why? I found out Friday is a public holiday!!! That means a short work week!!!!! What shall I do with my long weekend? I think I need to do something new and something I have not done before. That however does not include kicking a stupid black and white spotted ball around the field with 11 other people. Incidentally, Singapore won the match. At least we got 3rd place. phew.
Where can I visit in Singapore that I have not gone before? I'm thinking some dumbass gardens. Botanical gardens? It's supposed to be nice. The idea of spending an afternoon looking at flowers in the hot sun however is not that appealling, appealing, apealling (how to spell???).
On Saturday after choir we went to Jimmy's house and stuffed our faces (the result of which is that I can barely fit into my Monday pants...). I think I'm growing old - fell asleep watching football, and then when they wanted to go for a beer I turned it down and said I was gonna head home and sleep!!!!!! I turned down BEER to SLEEP!!!!!
I have to go on holiday sometime this year. Have not decided where to go or who to go with since I have like ZERO friends. Maybe I should try out one of those travel forums like they said in straitstimes.

What's wrong with me?
Three times today I find myself going onto google at work and typing:
Review "Mac Mini"
and then surfing mac mini galore....why? why?????? What is wrong with me????
I find myself wanting to dump my beige box PC at home, the ugly interface, the many ugly wires hanging all over at inappropriate lengths, the bloody starting tune which goes C g f C gggggggg....or whatever key that was - I've been muting my PC for months.
At $988 it's bloody cheap that's for sure. I can afford that. What a sweet price spot. The elegance, the beauty, the simplicity...but...most of all....THEM BOUNCING ICONS!!!!!!!!! I WANT!!!!!!!
Yet, I don't NEED it.....I just WANT it...I covet it....I DESIRE it....the monstrosity that is the Mac Mini is manipulating with my FEELINGS!!!!! It's seeks to override my sense of LOGIC....it is evil...
Come to think of it, it's like a woman really.

Fats has crappy childhood stories Part 1
Yah. I have a WAY more interesting list. Ages are approximate:
Birth:
Born 2 months premature on my mom's birthday. I'm my mom's present. I'm sure she doesn't feel like I'm a present but I am so there. I am a skinny tiny baby living in the incubator for weeks. I barely survive.
Parents overfeed me to make up. Oops.
Pre-Primary School - the Formative Years
- I pouted and sulked when my grandma doesn't take me out to gai-gai. One day she promised and didn't take me. I smashed the handle of her new umbrella and sulked. Then she came back from the market and said "let's go". I felt guilty - new emotion discovered.
- Figured that peeing on the mattress when I was sleeping was easier than going to the toilet. Pee on one side and then sleep on the other side. Mommy would clean it anyway in the morning. Mattress stank.
- I pouted and sulked for 3 hours in the hot car 'cos mommy didn't buy me my Big Mac. Then she promised and then we went to McDonald's. It rained. We bought Big Mac. Taxi didn't see us waiting to go out of junction. Taxi hit corner of car. Mommy got pissed. I got a big whacking.
- Found out that holding a Kit Kat in your hands will make it melt. Pissed off 'cos my friend who left it on the shelf's kitkat didn't melt. Ate melted kitkat anyway. Made a mess.
7 years old to 9 years old - the Enlightenment Years
- Went to primary school. Didn't dare to go toilet 'cos teacher had big cane. Saw my classmate pee in the classroom and then cry and then got lots of attention from the teacher. Next day: wanted to go toilet didn't dare. Peed in classroom instead. Then cry. Didn't get any sympathy from teacher. Pissed off with teacher.
- Classmate has metal bag with Transformers on it. Coolest thing ever. I had shapeless green canvas bag. I am annoyed.
- Cockroach flies across the room and lands on my privates as I towel off after the shower. I scream like a little girl and jumped naked around the room. Flying cockroaches gives me shivers since.
- Play "Doctor and Nurse" with my neighbours. 'Nuff said.
- Cheated on my spelling test and got away with it....ahhhhhh
- Learnt the F-word by imitating sounds on MASK cartoon on TV when Piranha shoots the discus of death from that motorcycle contraption.
- learnt that if you lock yourself in the toilet for a few hours when Mommy comes round with the cane/hanger/ruler/whatever-she-can-get-her-hands-on-when-she's-in-a-pissy-mood, that after a while she cools down and then you don't get smacked.
-learnt that hiding under the bed doesn't stop you from getting whacked - Mommy will get the broomstick.
-learnt that you can also lock yourself in the balcony of the house and take the key so Mommy can't get you. It's dirty there though.
-when Daddy smacks you, it hurts more. Don't piss Daddy off.
-learnt that having a maid = having a slave who can do your homework. Threaten to smack her with a cane if she doesn't do your chinese writing. She complies. Good girl.
-learnt that having a maid who can do your homework = having a clever maid who does your homework crappily so that you get crappy grades and would rather do it yourself.
-learn that dropping eggs on the floor so that Mommy would fry eggs for dinner is not a good idea. Makes a big slimy mess on the floor, you get a whacking, and NO eggs for a week.
-learn that eating and talking is not a good idea especially when you are talking to your neighbour at the same time while climbing the separating fence and bouncing up and down and then talking to your neighbour below and then choking on your rice grains and then coughing your mouthful of rice grains all over his face and making him cry.
-win Gold medal for *ahem* Chinese oratorical skills which has since become nonexistent.
-get elected Prefect 'cos I like to boss people around and be "better than them". Wear silly red Prefect tie with pride and act bossy. Doesn't help that I'm a lot smarter than most of them too. BUAHHHAAHHAAAHAHAAHAA. Also get elected Assistant Class Monitor. More bossing around.
-learn that it's not a good idea to play sparklers, throw it on the floor after I'm done, and then walk around barefoot. Ouch.
....Sleepy. To be continued tomorrow. BACK TO WORK.

Sack of potatoes
My uncle passed away on Friday morning on his way back from the market in Pahang. This is my dad's sister's husband. When my mom called me to tell the news, I went: "oh, ok. Heart attack? Aiyah he smoke and drink so much, not surprising lah."
And that was that. Not a sliver nor tinge of regret, remorse, sadness, nothing. And then I went back to work and then went out for a drink at Penny Black's at night on Boat Quay with some friends from university.
On reflection, it seems that I have not had any feelings of any sort for a long long while. The emotional centre of my brain seems to be as active as a sack of potatoes. I do not seem to recall many occassions of having felt happiness, sadness, emotional attachment, pride, contentment etc anytime in the last couple of YEARS. My usual response to something goes: "oh, that's cool. yay." if it's good, and "oh that sucks" if it's bad.
In 2004, the only time I felt a remote tingle in my emotional centre is when I went to Bremen for the Choir Olympics. Even that seemed somewhat surreal.
I feel like I'm in Pleasantville and life is passing by monochromatically.
I need some colour injected.

When will I ever learn?
Having gone home yesterday at 2 am, I decided to catch a bit of NipTuck Season 1 before I sent to sleep (I have the whole series tnx to Jimbo).
"A little bit of episode 10" I said to myself at 2+ am in the morning on a Thursday night. What a mistake THAT was. The next thing I knew, this criminal started showing up in the show...and then Christian's girlfiend got pregnant, and then watzisname's affair got discovered, and then the person watzisname was having an affair with committed suicide by eating pills blah blah....I couldn't stop and just HAD to watch 4 episodes in a row...
I think I would've been a crappy surgeon if I ever took up medicine. All that slicing makes me go queasy. Plastic surgery is so brutal.
And then I went to sleep at 5 am....I am so grumpy right now it's not funny.

An Elephant never loses its memory
The proposition is false. I prove as follows:
Let proposition p = An elephant never loses its memory.
Assume proposition p is true:
1. I am the size of an elephant.
2. Therefore I am an elephant.
3. I forgot my password to my internet banking.
4. Therefore I have lost my memory.
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 => p is untrue.
I'm drunk on wine.
This hot colleague of mine just walked past in her slippers.
And again.
Too bad she smokes.

Exhausted
The other day I almost collapsed from laughter when I found out that one of my colleagues was on MC. Diagnosis? "Exhaustion" says the doctor.
I was extremely amused. I'd read somewhere that it was a medical condition.
Anyway, I think I should go on MC for exhaustion. Working 16 hour days for months on end is no joke. My typical day begins like this:
7.30 am: try to wake up. hit the snooze button.
7.50 am: drag myself out of bed.
7.55 am: bathe 'cos day before too tired to bathe before sleeping.
8.20 am: leave for work. eat my sandwich on the way to the MRT station
9 am: reach work. Usually this never happens 'cos I always wake up late and consequently end up at work about 9.30 am. Check e-mails and respond to whatever e-mails I can.
1 pm: lunch hour. eat lunch. come back.
2 pm. start work
3-4pm: Europe wakes up and starts calling/e-mailing us. We pander to their demands.
6 pm: Singapore closes. We start attending to Europe work so that we can catch them during their business day.
7.30 pm: Go have dinner.
8 pm: return from dinner and start surfing blogs
8.30 pm: start work again.
10+pm: send stuff to Europe and respond to queries.
11 pm - 12 midnight: Europe more or less closes and leaves us with instructions to deal with the Singapore end of the work. We start doing so that can get it out in time for Singapore opening the next morning.
1 am-2 am: finish or can't be bothered anymore. Go home.
2.30 am: reach home. turn on aircon, brush teeth, change, think about what's on the plate the next morning, collapse and have work related dreams.
3+ am: snore.
next morning:
8.50 am: Wake up. Think "SHIT I'm LATE. Bugger. Bleah whatever."
10.05 am: Arrive at work looking sheepish.
ad infinitum.
I need an MC for exhaustion methinks.

10.05 am: Arrive at work looking sheepish.
ad infinitum.
I need an MC for exhaustion methinks.

The Simple Life
New Year went and passed by. My parents came down for a visit, and as usual, I was reminded that I should do the following: 1. Exercise. Like NOW.2. Look for an apartment to buy so that I have a place of my own. Like SOON. And so that I don't squander my money away.3. NOT to buy a car. After all, if my mom could WALK around PJ from home to her workplace about 8 km away when she first graduated, taking the bus / MRT will not kill me.4. Copulate and make babies. Not in the exact same words, but you get the idea. New Year's eve was spent quietly at a friend's place with a few of my old Hall friends whom I haven't seen in a while. Val's maid cooked for us (ah....the divine cooking....miss my tuition days) and we stuffed our faces on the best bee hoon ever, Choya liqueur from Japan (VERY GOOD), chicken wings, fried wantan, and crappy vege soup. And then watched "The Day After Tomorrow" which was quite scary in the aftermath of the Tsunami disaster. Then we played Monopoly. I was super unlucky and ended up with only like *2* properties. Needless to say, I was the 2nd person to go bankrupt. Sucks. Today as I ate my ta-pao-ed lunch in the firm library while reading Business Times and Today, I was evesdropping on a conversation on the next table by the tea lady on the library floor (wh's worked for this company for 28 years) who was saying how she gets into work every morning at about 7 am, starts her work, and when she's finished the first round at about 8 am she goes out to buy her daily dose of beancurd...yum.....and that's breakfast. I think for lunch they eat very simple stuff like oatmeal drink with milo, or sometimes they cook and bring from home...nothing fancy at all. It reminds me of days of yore - and seems so out of place in the modern world where my friends and I wonder what fancy stuff we can stuff our faces with at lunch - hopefully some new delight that will tantalise and tickle our tastebuds. Maybe I should eat porridge for lunch and stop stuffing my face with "modern food". Plain porridge with sweet potato. That's simple food for you.
Speaking of porridge, that's what we ate for dinner yesterday after Chorale practice. It was so so. Then I went to eat Prata where all the rest of them were enamoured by the Singapore-Myanmar semi-finals match at the Kallang Stadium while I sat there twiddling my thumbs bored to tears and in pain partly due to the fact that my neck was turned at at 120 degree angle to watch the TV behind me. The only exciting part of the match was when some Indian got a water bottle thrown at him and it smashed on his head. Such drama. Go Myanmar! Unfortunately, Singapore won. zzzzzz. Hopefully Malaysia wins and gets into the semi-finals and gives Singapore a good thrashing. Weeeee. Go Malaysia!
After that we went to Jimmy's house so that I could erm..."borrow" Niptuck season 1 and 2. While we were waiting for the DVDs to burn Jim-boy played Halo 2 (zzzzzzzzz) while Fats chatted up his numerous girlfriends. Speaking of which, it is extremely amusing to me (at his expense, but who cares?) how when we tease him and go "so, who's the new crush? is it XXXX?" he blushes and goes:
"eh don't lah. you're having fun at my expense leh...." and then blushes again.
MUAHHHAHHAHHAAHAHAHA I am extremely amused. Nonetheless, I shall continue to make wild speculations until such time I discover the identity of the poor victim.
Like I said, Jimmy was playing with Halo 2, and I picked up his headphone set thingie where you can transmit spoken comments to all the other players playing on that mission. I discovered my amazingly foul mouth hahahaahhahahahahaa. I thought it was extremely funny but I'm sure more conservative prudes may not. Everytime he killed someone, which was almost NEVER since he bloody camps at his flag WAITING for enemies to drop down from the sky to be shot....*cough*..wuss...*cough*......I had the following comments:
1. "SUCK ON THAT B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TCH!!!!"
2. "Did you like that huh? huh? WHOOO's your DADDDY???? WHOO'S YOUR DDDADDDDY!!!!!!!"
3. "WAZZZZAAAAAAP MAHHH NIGGGER????? COME TO DADDDY!!!!! COME TO DADDDY!!!!"
4. "Oh bugger, I got raped." (this is when he died). Ok I didn't get to say this but I wanted to.
Such is my foul mouth that I need to be Listerine-ified.
Crap. It's 2.15 pm. I need to get back to work. Hardworking soul that I am. *cough* *cough*. Can't wait to go home to watch my NipTuck tonight.
Oh yeah, fat kiat also said that when beheardbyme leaves he thinks he's gonna miss her. In an innocent sort of way...I think. And I think I'm gonna miss her as well. Miss leading her astray on innocent tasting drinks like Orange juice pumped up with alcohol.
I'm not an alcoholic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
