What a day filled with excitement. I started off with Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and, even on a 2 year old game my computer sux.
Went for a tuina session in the afternoon, and it was the most bloody painful massage I ever had in a while. It's funny, everytime the masseuse asks: "tong4 ma?", it's bound to be damn bloody painful. So much so that I can't even squeak my pain out - I'm just paralysed with pain. However, the after effects are quite good - right now I feel like a lump of putty (no snide comments please) ready to be dumped into bed to vegetate.
The evening was spent at a friend's house with 2 others binging on wine and cheese and watching Monty Python: The Meaning of Life. The show is ridiculously funny.
Quite a good way to catch up with old friends. Ah, it's fun to be earning your own money and splurging on things not possible at uni like wine and cheese.
Tomorrow my only plans as yet are to be a cheapskate and go get my free tin of milo at Suntec. I suppose I should head to the gym at some point or other.

The Aftermath
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4078844,00.html
(Edited 30 April 2006) - original post was too long - just go to the weblink.
This was part of my "research" as to what goes on in the "Holy Spirit Weekend" of the Alpha Course, which I'd been attending over the past 6-7 weeks or so.
The series culminates in the most important part of the course, the "Holy Spirit Weekend" and I pretty much whiled away my ENTIREEE saturday morning / afternoon on this yesterday. As with the previous course on prayer, I found it suspicious that on these "important" sessions, I was the only non-Christian in the group. What happened to the rest. Creepy bad omen. Means all attention will be focussed on me - the "problem to be solved", the "black sheep", the "unenlighted agnostic".
The videos that day were quite boring as were the "discussions" and I fell asleep on numerous occassions and all filled with uninspiring talk of "the Holy Spirit" like some mystical / mythical energy which surrounds us and fills us and gives us supernatural "gifts", based on some biblical occurrence on the Day of the Pentecost:
"Acts Chapter 2: "1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. 5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11(both Jews and converts to Judaism Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?" " "
What sort of gifts? They "include speaking in tongues, the interpretation of tongues, prophecy, the word of knowledge, the word of wisdom, the ability to distinguish between spirits, faith, the working of miracles and gifts of healing" - 1 Corinthians 12
Does this not sound like a pagan computer game??? I half expected a circle enclosing a five pointed star to appear on the floor, the lights dimmed, and candles to be placed on each vertex of the star.
So yesterday, we ought to have been filled with the Holy Spirit, and started speaking in tongues and perhaps all our ailments were to be healed. However, the catch: the Holy Spirit does not grant these gifts, unless you first allow yourself to be filled with the Holy Spirit and accept it into your heart and being.
During some discussion, they asked: "Do you remember a few weeks ago we prayed for you?". Me: "er, yes". "So have you changed your mind? Do you want to try again? We will pray with you. Do you accept Christ?". Me: "Er, no, I haven't changed my mind". I'm sorry, the argument that "oh, if God doesn't exist, then there's no harm trying and saying a prayer and opening your heart" doesn't quite stick with me.
In the first place, why should I put my frame of mind as if something exists and speak to it? It's back to front. If I told you, "Over there is a Stone of Fortune / God of Money / Blue Cat / [insert prayer object of choice], and if you pray to it, all fortunes and luck will come to you and you will be filled with happiness and the holy spirit. It's ok if you don't believe in it. Just pray to it - if it doesn't exist, then nothing will happen, so what do you have to lose? Open your heart and try!!!", I'm sure you'd think I've gone off my rockers. Similarly, how can I then pray to something the existence of which in the first place is questionable???? The peer pressure is quite incredible - you feel the burden of accepting as they speak to you in their kind voice, and you feel like scum / earthworm if you don't 'cos they were so nice about it.
At the end, each group was "encouraged" to bring their friends down to the front at the end, so that the pastor could "pray" for them to receive the Holy Spirit, and that they may receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
I could feel silent eyes on me from my general left and my general right, the hand motions from member on the left to member on the right motioning "How? What shall we do? It's now or never! We have to get him down there!!!", and it was fortunate that I was already LATE for choir which I told the group about up front. Saved by choir!!!! I got my bag, said goodbye, and left. As I left the compound, a great burden was lifted from my shoulders / back, and I felt happy and light again. Was never so glad to go for a choir practice before.
That marks my experience on the Alpha Course, and I won't be attending any more - I've seen enough, and I feel pressured and judged when I attend - it's not something happy, and I don't see what it has left to offer me by way of spiritual enlightenment. The next three residual sessions on the Alpha Course, according to a course outline on Wikipedia, are:
How can I resist evil?
Why and how should I tell others?
Does God heal today?
What about the church?
How can I make the most of the rest of my Life?
These will presuppose the participants have accepted the previous week's teachings, i.e. accepted the Holy Spirit during the Holy Spirit weekend. It's not for me, thank you very much. I will seek spiritual enlightenment elsewhere, when the time comes.

iDelinquent
I am a DELINQUENT associate. I am a BADDDD associate. I should be SMACKED for my work sins.
Past few days I've been leaving work like 7-ish. I have work, but I don't really feel like doing it. On Tuesday I snuck out of the office at 12 pm for early lunch. I felt SOOOOooooo guilty, that I woke at for that past two days at 6.30 am and got into work at 8.15 and 8.30, to make up for my sins.
I think I am warped.
Speaking of work, there's another quitee at work today. He's going to an investment bank to do derivatives documentation. It all sounds so exciting. There are so many quitees at work, the turnover is so high that, at the junior level, it is estimated that we have a complete staff change once every 2-3 years. 33% attrition rate? Is that high? What am I doing here...
It has been a fruitful week of sorts. I hit the gym a couple of times, 'cos I refuse to look pudgy in my Xiamen photos 'cos I'll be comparing those with my Bremen photos.
I felt like a voyeur one of the days. It seems that the orch@rd branch of Calif0rnia has warped design - the room for bodypump has a ONE WAY MIRROR (it's not apparent that it's one way) - I could see into the room from the next room which I was attending (cycling class - right killer this is). And who should have stationed herself in front of the mirror but this very toned sexy young vixen in tight gym wear, checking out her posture throughout the bodypump class. Needless to say, I wasn't paying very much attention to my own class. It was quite some voyeuristic experience! It's like they can't see you, but you can see them without feeling rude for staring! And the guy behind her was TOTALLY checking out her er posterior everytime they did a squat. Highly recommended class.
Has anyone checked out http://www.vjc.moe.edu.sg/home.shtml? It looks distinctively SMU style.
What shall I get up to this weekend? Maybe I should go JB and binge on movies again. I think I shall check out Ikea for er home ideas. I'm becoming such a homeboy. I think that means gangster but er nevermind it sounds appropriate. My colleague (another DELINQUENT associate) and I f-ed off work at 6.30 pm today (that's AFTER having like a 1 hour tea break - I know, we should both be fired), and we went to Plaza Sing, where, to my utter embarrassment, she wanted to check out the Osim uZap and to compare it with the OTO Trimax. I think I turned a shade of pink at the demo. The conclusion (this is all hearsay), appears to be that they are both ticklish, and OTO one very powerful, so more ticklish. As consolation, we checked out household appliances after that at Best Denki. The washing machines, fridges, TVs (very exciting!), microwave ovens, airpots.
Secretary's week is this week. Another excuse by the bloody western capitalistic world to impose financial obligations on us. My roomie and I are taking out the seccies to lunch. I think next month we will both subsist on porridge and economy rice. Bought another seccie some handcream. I think it cost us like $45 each. I wonder what kind of handcream it is. Must have pearl powder inside or something.
It's 11 pm, and I can barely keep my eyelids open. I think iSleep soon.
I should start taking up those drumming lessons as part of Project Funk. They are on Friday evenings which is perfect timing, since, apart from the semi-cult I've been forced to attend the past 6 weeks or so, I don't have much on. Drums are the ultimate expression of coolness.
I've given up on motorbiking after a colleague flashed a picture of me on a scooter in Phuket. I looked positively UNCOOL. Nothing like those cool motorcycle ads with women draping around the protagonist's arms in his leather jacket and sunglasses. It was more like, Jabba the Hut on his way to the pasar malam.

What an exciting day it has been!
As part of Project Funk, I need a car. A priori, I need licence for said car. Ergo, I need to go for theory test to convert my license.
I must say I am a KIASU chao mugger. I HIGHLIGHTED my theory book, and put blue POST-ITs on pages with TRICKY signs. The theory test was TRICKY. I expected it to be like in er Malaysia where you just pick the longest answer which will be the correct one.
I instinctively woke up at 2.30 am thinking ok ok it's dawn, I need to GET UP, and head down to UBI! That was a bit mad. Eventually got up at 7, and made it to that god forsaken place on time.
Pleased to report that I passed hurhurhur. I would've been first to finish (10 mins ok!), except I went through my answers again, but then I saw some angmohs finish, and I thought, ok I can't go through all 50 questions again, and pressed "End Test", and got a "PASSED" after 2 seconds. Weeeeee. Step 2 of Project Funk completed.
I don't know if it's an omen, but last night, I had a dream where I er knocked over 2 pedestrians. I thought they died, but they recovered. So what does that mean?
Had another work-related dream where I was giving this guy from my firm black face. hurhur that was fun. I don't like him very much.
For the rest of the day I was basically a glorified secretary, typing out a document index at $350 an hour, since no one else could do it. At 7 pm I decided I had enough of brainless work, and got out of there. Talk about lack of challenge. But I needed to get rid of the boxes lying in my room before the next big deal hits. I'm itching to be clever again.
Headed off to an hour of punishing but brainless torture. Dinner was a very satisfying MOS rice Burger and milkshake. Yum.
I can't decide whether i want to upgrade my computer, or buy an xbox 360. If I had a TV it would be a nobrainer. i don't have a TV. sulk.

It seems I'm not meant to be a Youngbie!
Sitting on my table after lunch was this month's issue of "Millionaire Asia". Wow! I didn't know I became a millionaire! Since when?!? How come nobody told me about it!
Flipped through the magazine, and I'm sorry, all the youngbie brands don't feature there. There is no Billabong. or Quiksilver. or Kappa. or Beetlebug. Hermes got. Armani got. Bombardier Learjet got (first time I saw ad for these!!! they *only* cost US$40m...). Lamborgini - check. Aston Martin - check. Article on Erectile Dysfunction - check. WAIT A MINUTE - WRONG TARGET AGE GROUP HERE!!!!!
But yes, growing old and arriving into money eventually has its priveleges. I can imagine the line of conversation Barbie style. It goes: "Hey Barbie, what say you and I take a flight down to Taiwan for supper? I hear they do a good [insert food of choice]". "Sure Ken!"
hurhuhururhurhurrr. iOld.

Not in Oblivion
It's true. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion needs a powerful PC. My 5 year old AMD Athlon 1800XP+ with 768 MB Ram, Nvidia Ti4200 just doesn't cut it. Not only did the game bring my computer down to its knees, I think my PC got majorly raped by the game. I couldn't even watch the INTRO VIDEO, much less play the game....Bah. So now I shall just HAVE to upgrade my PC / buy an XBox 360 won't I? =D
I am so not in Oblivion. Sulk.
Also, I think the Holy Spirit conspireth against me. Next Saturday I'm screwed. I hope THEY dun make me do weird stuff I'm not comfortable with. I certainly don't want to be cross examined about PRAYER again.
On another note, I have begun Project Funk. Yes, tt's me. iFunky. or rather, i am GOING to be funky. First day of Project Funk did not end well as my left heel is now BLEEDING from chafing on that funky pair of shoes I bought er months ago. Now my funky left shoe has a tiny blood stain. Bah.
I need to throw away my entire wardrobe. Slowly. And immerse myself in the youngbie culture, like play computer games, chase skirts, talk youngbie lingo eg:
1. wah seh, cool sia this game! how you play one? Eh I heard DOTA damn cools lah, let's go LAN shop and check it out after choir! what? you dun wanna LAN with me? you suxxors lohr...
2. hey babe, wanna ride? Sure Ken! (oh wait. wrong lingo oops.)
3. iOns, I'm wanna be a SMUrf.
4. Ok I suxxors at youngbie lingo.
methinks got mid 20s crisis.
indulge in youngbie hobbies. Sorry I dun play footie.

27, the new 21
Yesh...today ish mine berfday, so thanks to all those who sms-ed me like before 9 am waking me up on my leave day....
My sister called me from the UK. it was 8.22 am, I babbled some nonsense on the phone 'cos my brain wasn't really awake. I recall going: "who's this???". "Your SISTER LAH". "Oh, you sound very different on the phone". "HUHHH???"
My brother tried to call me, but er I was in a movie. I shall return his call tomorrow.
I pretty much whiled my whole day away in JB 'cos I had to get my metal mouth fixed. They were so busy there I think they assigned me a freshie. I was quite friendly initially, until he kept poking my gums with that very sharp metallic thing and going "sorry", and asking me questions expecting me to answer when he had his stupid tools in my wide open mouth. I made him stop and mumbled "I can't really talk with my mouth full". He must have poked my gums at least 10 times, and my face got progressively blacker. Perhaps it's time to change dentists.
Headed down to City Square after that for a spot of lunch - had Kenny Rogers which plain sucked. Bought a ticket for Ice Age 2, I almost snorted aloud when the counter girl wanted to collect *RM 6* from me. Apparently today is movie special day. Who needs to buy pirated DVDs??? Also decided to watch Eight Under.
Both movies were not remarkable at all, although the dogs in Eight Under were really quite adorable - a must watch for any dog lover. I dunno what a Malamute is - they all looked like Huskies. They must be quite remarkable creatures being able to sleep in snow in the Antartic. To think some Singapore owners bring them here and parade them around ECP - they must be dying of heat...
So anyway, crappy movies costing 4 hours of my time - fortunately they were cheap as dirt.
City Square has these rather cool street-type clothes stores. I thought they looked cool - trying to connect with my youthful side as you can see - and was quite tempted to buy some of these cool-ish shirts, but somehow the image of me in funky rap-like gear didn't seem to quite connect. I guess I'm not meant to wear such stuff hahaha. At erm, my age, I suppose I need to start looking at more er mature stuff.
Bought a ton of DVDs. Legit? ahem. nuff said. Transformers, gundam seed, and, just to spite Ne l son Ch ua who has been making fun of my PC, I bought Oblivion. But I doubt it will run on my crappy PC which needs an upgrade me thinks. An overhaul more like. and Black & White 2. I'm sorry. Sometimes people buy things they don't need.
I wanted to eat crispy Roti Canai with teh tarik for dinner, but the char kway teow stall caught my attention before I got there. It sucked unfortunately. I want my roti canai and teh tarik!!!
That about sums up my day. I don't feel any older today than yesterday, nor any wiser, nor any different.

The Carrot
What an exciting month this has been. Today, I shamelessly headed off at 6 pm for yet another class (different type) at ye old gym! I guess after the first one, it really is easier to go for others. And after that, i went straight back to work and felt totally refreshed after brainless exercising for an hour! It's actually quite fun to do something brainless for an hour.
A is in a position where A is paid low relative to peers. However, it is said that people in A's position accept it because there's the carrot of boss-ship being dangled at the end.
What does A then do, when he/she finds out, quite by accident, that the carrot isn't as juicy as it's made out to be??? Should A be looking for other fatter and juicier carrots now instead of grazing on grass?
A needs the carrots when he/she is young to develop! When A is old, he/she can't bite / digest the carrots anymore! What use is a juicy carrot then?
Decisions decisions.

I want to die
I've always been avoiding those classes at the gym because I always thought they were filled by chunky guys who would make me feel like a worm 'cos I don't belong there 'cos, well, i not chunky.
Felt sick of feeling as if my pants are going to burst, so I thought I better do something about it, and I decided, ok if I am going to die tomorrow, feeling like a worm is really quite insignificant. Besides, everyone has to start somewhere.
With my new colleague in tow, he who does not know the meaning of embarrassment, and we hauled ourself there for a Saturday morning Bodypump class. Putting my embarrassment in the dustbin, I trooped into the class and wormed my way to the back of the class. The instructor asked, "how many people are first timers?", and I saw a couple of hands go up so I immediately felt at ease. And the atmosphere wasn't that intimidating after all. Not that many chunky guys, a lot of aunties and women, so, phew....
Anyway, this must be like the toughest workout ever in the past few years. I kept hoping it would end. And by the time it did end, I could barely go down the stairs without my knees feeling as if they would give way.
The feeling has now spread to my entire body, and I can't get up without going ouch ouch ouch.
But how exciting, having gotten over my initial fear, I can now go for subsequent classes!
Exciting turn of events this is.

Amen
QUOTE
after tonight.
i realise i really do miss singing well.
like in a good competitive choir.
not saying that chorale's bad.
just that the attitude's different.
or then again maybe it's still relax mood.
but it's already april.

Amen to that. KNN saturday's performance was like the worst performance of my life. I didn't know whether I should've flushed my head down the very dirty church toilet bowl.
Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Key change, missed entries, the backrow singing on a different key from the front row, clashing chords that are not supposed to clash, non clashing chords when they are supposed to clash. Was probably not much higher of a standard than my hall choir when I first began singing for choir.
It's April. The competition is in July. Yet, wonderfully, some of the members were mumbling through the songs not really knowing what to sing. And when they did, it wasn't in tune either.
Slack is what it is. Slack Slack Slack. Everyone deserves a good whipping. The biggest contributory factor - "God, why hast thou forsaken us?"
Silver medals here we come.
