I'm so tired I just want to crawl in bed and lie here till tmr. But,
to quote Frost (not that I am any sort of literary genius; far from
it) "but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and
miles to go before I sleep".

A document needs to be turned around. I need to go for a haircut, and
could use a massage. Then I really need either a nice bottle of medium
or full bodied red wine like maybe a chateauneuf du pape to curl up
to, or some champagne.

What I need are 3 day weekends.

How is it that my weekends get busier as I get older

Rich and Famous

So it's 12 am and I'm working on a contract and looking at this horrific 3 inch thick tender document from a governmental agency. It's to build something somewhere.
I'm tired. I want to sleep.
And then in comes this email from my boss (some parts changed slightly but identities and events all real). It's making me very grumpy.
==========
The Dom Perignon was served when [the son] and I arrived at 11.30 pm or so...I can't say I can drink much of it anymore, but still, I've been drinking it every night with dinner. They keep sending bottles to our room.

Apart from Bruce Willis and his new wife, Michael J Fox and family and Keith Richards ( Rolling Stones ) are here.

Bruce Willis goes by the name of Dr. White, Michael Fox ( I can't remember ) and Keith Richards by his own name.

Both Bruce Willis and Keith Richards have their own villas. Ran into Donna Karan's ( famous fashion designer , boutique in the Hilton ) daughter at the spa yesterday. Christine Brinkley ( model ) is arriving today. At such a resort everyone here is looking like ordinary people. There isn't a haidresser here so all the women look like they just got out of bed ! Everyone lives in a bikini. Considering it's a private island the food is stunning. I have never been anywhere ( resort wise ) where there are no Asians or blacks save for us and the staff. Most of the staff are from Asia or local ( known as belongers ).

The colour of the sea is so spectacular and it is extremely peaceful. I can see why this place is such a hit. This is high season especially this week as it's Spring Break and we are going into Easter. I love the quiet. There are no cars so no mechanized sounds which is extremely pleasant. We will drive ( in a buggy ) around the property this afternoon.

=========

Sigh. One day it'll be me going: "Oh, I just had lunch with Tony Blair last week. Tony's such a charmer. Bush was seated next to me and he was being a bore as usual and saying that the capital of Greece is Greenland and that isn't it great that the Euro is so low -- he can buy more French goods like you know, french fries."

I'm sorry my knowledge of celebrity names sucks.

Emergency Contact Person

Hmm. Today I'm filling up a form, asking for my emergency contact person. And I was stumped for 5 mins.....

I'm still not sure who I should put.

I don't really have anyone in Singapore to do this, do I?

Wow. I bet if I died today at home I'd be just rotting on my bed until the flies eat all my flesh.

With the recent rise in COE to sky rocketing levels not seen since 2004 / 2005, I am SOOOO glad that I bought a new car in Feb. Saved a bundle on CoE, PLUS with CoE prices at these levels, I bet I lose really very little money on my Getz. And also the second hand value of the new car just went up.

Hooray for high CoEs.

As I was telling my friend on Monday while we were stuck in this horrific jam on the ECP where this bus broke down:

1.  we should fine vehicles that break down on major roads during peak hours. It's their fault they didn't maintain their vehicles properly. Possibly we can give them a grace of 1 breakdown every 2 years or something. LTA fines SMRT for MRT breakdowns, on the basis of huge cost to public. Likewise the time wasted during these jams costs a lot of money.

2.  continuous tight control on CoE prices. Tax them until noone wants to buy one. Then we won't have problems getting parking. The flip side though is that the public transport system in Singapore needs serious revamping. How is it acceptable that it takes me some 1 hour door to door including waiting time to do a 10 km journey from home to work on a bus, with the nearest MRT some 15 min walk away in the hot sun? Unacceptable.

3.  ERP them roads till kingdom come during peak hours. I'm sure if ERP were S$10 on the ECP, people wouldn't drive on it. Here's my support to 2 digit ERP prices.

Karaoke - Glee

Glee has given me a whole new bunch of songs to sing at karaoke. The
latest achievement is a duet for this song Alone, originally sung by
Heart. It's a damn cool feel good song. Have also done Don't Stop
Believing, Endless Love, I'll Standby You, Can't Fight This Feeling
Anymore, Imagine. But haven't tried Sweet Caroline.

Also tried to sing a couple of Jay Chou songs, which are quite cool.
Thank goodness for the iPhone for me to find all the lyrics in pinyin.
Unfortunately it doesn't help me for Cantonese songs.

"do you work here?"

Sayeth an ikea customer to me. Now which part of me looks like I would
work for Ikea earning minimum wage???????

I even gave her a "har???" and she asked me again!!!!

Knn.

Is it the way I dress (incidentally polo T and jeans).

I should've given her my name card.

Blog entry from VS Choir:

"NUS choir is presenting a concert this Wednesday. To expose our members to good choral music, and in line with the preparation work for our Rhapsodhy IX, the concert is compulsory for Sec 1s and 2s. This will definitely give us a gauge of what the standard of a professional choir concert is like. (:"

heheheee

NUS Choir

What can I say about the concert last night. Hrm.

I think first of all, they need to shoot all the tenor 2s. Move some
altos to sing tenor 1, and have the tenor 1s take the place of the
tenor 2s. I'm sure it's not all of them, but enough of them to create
this awful raspy and throaty sound.

I did like the powerpoint presentations, although after a while, it
was a little too much to be having a presentation after every song. It
also doesn't really create the nostalgic feel that I think it's trying
to achieve. Maybe what they should've done is to have a spoken
timeline. Not sure if that would make it less monotonous though.

Oh, then I'd like to shoot some of the audience members for being
overenthusiastic clappers.

My favourite song: Bogoroditse Djevo, although it was done a little
too fast. Not enough serenity.

My vote for least favourite: Honey Suckle Bee something or other. This
was the song that I first wanted to shoot all the Sops for their awful
and out of tune entries; until the Tenors opened their line, after
which not only did I want to shoot them, I also wanted to have their
carcasses drawn and quartered by wild horses.

Wah damn mean lah.

Highlight of the evening was my post-concert Gin and Tonic, my new
preferred alcoholic drink of choice.

Choral bits

For the last week I've been obsessed about this song called Sicut Cervus, written in the Renaissance period by GP Palestrina. He's also the writer of Tu Es Petrus, one of the songs we sang when we got the championship in the sacred music category in Xiamen back in 2006 (GOSH IT HAS BEEN SO LONG!!!).

The wonderful performance is by this fantastic choir called Ansan City Choir. I bought their CD during our trip to Korea last year. Unfortunately I can't find any more clips of them online or much info in Google. Which sucks.

The words are very simple yet poetic.

Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.
(As the deer longs for running water, so longs my soul for you, O Lord.)

So I've been looking around Youtube for other examples of this song. The best I've found so far is by Westminster Cathedral Choir -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsw1kdLqfec

But there are other horrible examples.  The worst one reminded me of why it is that before I came to Singapore I didn't know what choral singing meant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVdJpTkqT78&feature=related

Retreat

The recent management retreat was rather good. I got to participate in
some serious discussions about transforming the company etc. Since
I've spent all my working life in this company I do feel some sense of
responsibility not to let the company down and to ensure future
prosperity. Gosh I'm rattling on like some pap supporter. But one
feels how one feels.

Also got to know lot more people in the management class, and in turn
they got to see my face. My boss made sure to introduce me to everyone
so that was great.

Now, to improve profitability. I must start being more serious at
work, to work on my marketing skills and generating fat profits.
Productivity has been in the pits lately.

I liked this photo when I took it but on hindsight it seems a little
voyeuristic. The colours and lines I like.

Everyone should go watch Up In The Air it's pretty good. I draw some
parallels between the character played by George Clooney and myself.
Oh, and maybe I should highlight my hair silver. It might look cool.

Speaking of hair I just found out that one of the directors spends
about 600 to 700 bucks a month maintaining her hairdo. Tt could let me
cut hair for a year...

And that a wash and blow in new York could cost usd 100 before tips....

Insane...

Peanuts

"Oh there are these marvellous villa's you can get in Thailand. It's in the north of this island -- spectacular views! And it's going for just US$2 - 3 million. So cheap! It's just peanuts really! I'm thinking of buying one."

No wonder I'm going to keep feeling poor. How to match that kind of wealth.

Meanwhile, the thought flashed through my mind: "can I be your monkey and you throw some peanuts my way?"

I'm wondering. If a Chindian marries a Chindian, is it possible that one kid turns out fully Chinese, and another fully Indian?

Wouldn't that be awkward?

Holiday.

Right. I'm going on one.

Except I don't really know to where.
