I'm baaaaaaack part 2

Have arrived on the soil of dreary singapore. The image of the squeaky clean immigration checkpoint bores me to tears. Singapore bores me to tears. The integrated resorts, when ready will shake up this boring, dreary and lifeless town I call my residence (note: not home). The only things going for it are choir and some friends from uni. Even though I hardly keep in contact with any of them due to demands from my job.

I wonder what will become of the esplanade when the resorts are ready. They should have these grand halls to bring in entertainers. Maybe esplanade will be less snotty then and charge less.

I miss china. Ack. I miss the lamian and the porridge.

Overheard

At Melaka now visiting my relatives in Malaysia while waiting for my bus to singapore from melaka. From my uncles who are rather English challenged, while describing a car in hokkien: the car is very good, got "aromatic". I was thinking "huh?" And they continued: front also aromatic and aromatic at the side, save petrol.

Ohhhhh....aerodynamic...

I'm quite evil. Okok I promised to be humble...

I'm baaaaack

In KL. Arrived 2 am or so. By the time we got oiut it was about 3. We saw our tour guide get into his car which his wife was driving. It was a bloody BMW!!!! An older model but still!!!!! That's like a bigger car than my parents drive. So now we know tour guides are loaded and we can cut back on tips when going on tours.

I think tour guides have the best jobs in the world. Not only do you get to travel on other people's expense, people PAY you to go travel on other people's expense. What a job I say. Better than being pilot cos pilots are just stuck in planes most of the time and don't get to see places where planes don't land.

But you need to have the kind of extroverted love to talk cock and giggle and love-the-sound-of-my-own-voice character even with strangers. I'm just antisocial with strangers so I would nake an extremely boring tour guide. It would be like...oh on your left is the esplanade. People say it looks like a durian which is a smelly but tasty fruit. Ok guys, its time to go shopping. We will pick you up from orchard road tonight at 8. Ok? Okkk have fun!!!

And then I'll sod off to sulk in one corner of my own because I didn't have enough sleep the night before.

I caught a cold. I bet I can be bass 2 now.

I'm leeeving on a jetplane part 2

Ok we are boarding the plane now to kl and I must big goodbye to the middle kingdom to return to the dreary life that I lead in singapore.

Sigh.........I need a holiday to recover from my holiday.

Airports and hotels

Having travelled 9 days in china, I fount out that every single hotel in china looks exactly the same. In the room that is. I'm surprised.

And airports generally look the same too. At least, the bigger airports. I've yet to watch that show airport with tom hanks.

So now we're waiting for our flight back to kl. I'm going to be extremely tired and not with it on monday. Sure get scolded one.

Kugua beer???

What a funny name...hope it tastes good...

Reflections

Am on this ultra lng bus ride to lingbao therefore time to blog.

I think I like visiting rural areas more than urban areas. I think I'm attracted to the idea of a simple life. I get all dreamy when I see peasants. Somehow the idea of living in a village, marrying a peasant girl who'll take care of my kids and me while we struggle to eke out a living for ourselves is quite appealing for unknown reasons. I'm sure its completely unrealistic but still, it doesn't hurt to exercise the imagination.

I think what makes life interesting is going through the struggle process. Like when you reach the peak of a hill after a long hike. Or how an expensive meal is very tasty when you're less well off. Or free time more appreciated when its rare. That's why there are a lot of unhappy rich people because the struggle is no longer there. I seem to recall a philosophy lesson on this. Was it Hegel? Something about contradictions.

Its kind of ironic. When I was 14 the teacher gave us an assignment among the tasks of which was to describe your ideal living conditions and to draw it. Everyone drew these pictures of a kampung hut next to the beach with a coconut tree in the background.

I thought that was boring as f*** and I thought that I should be as unconeventional as possible. I also thought that it was a stupid project and I wanted to write what I thought would irritate this malay teacher the most. So I said I would love to live in a concrte jungle with lots and lots of high rise buildings and high people density. And then I drew blocks and blocks of ugly rectangular blocks of buildings. And now I'm in singapore living out my "dream". The irony of it all....

Speaking of which I think city life brings out the ugly side of people - selfishness, kiasuness, rudeness etc etc. Its very apparent when we travelled from zhangjiajie to xian.

And now I've lost my train of thought because this conplicated file is due for signing tomorrow, and my boss is out of office and the secretary emailed me for help. So I called back and drafted something on this blackberry. This device is really very useful. Its kept me company throughout the trip, and I've recouped all the gprs costs by spending an hour workig while I'm on this ultra long bus ride with nothing to do which I'm going to bill for. The handphone roaming bill will also cost a bomb but I'm charging them for that too. Talk about mixing work with pleasure. I want to buy one when I get back. Better save battery. More work emails may come in.

Day 7 and 8

Since arriving at xian we've been rushed from city to city and as such I haven't had time at all nor the energy to reflect on the society or the surroundings.

Anyway we're now on the final leg of our tour which has spanned 3 provinces. I'm sure my mandarin has improved somewhat though I think I prefer the intonation of the people further away from the capital as it is more interesting. The nearer one gets to beijing the closer people speak in the four intonations and the higher pitched and more nasal it becomes, like my current tour guide. Initially it is pleasing, vut after a while it becomes high pitched irritating noise like a chipmunk whining in the backgrouns. It's also very monotonous and puts me to sleep. Further away from the capital the intonation changes and its a lot more pleasing to the ear.

Anyway, so, updates. The last I updated, we were in the daifeng city visiting the shaolin school. Can't remember if I've mentioned, but they have enough students there and revenue from tourism ajnd students to run an army. Outside the school thers this huge monument in the shape of a shaolin monk. It actually looks quite vulgar in the sense that its just big for the sake of being big.

Subsequently we went to the city of kaifeng which is one of the seven ancient chinese cities. Everything there is associated with justice bao. There's a bao lake, a bao street etcetc. One place which is quite cool is this real life replica of a painting depicting life in the song dynasty. They've got all the buildings, bridges, boats built in the style of the era. They even have a mini performance on the lake involving a dispute between what seems to be two merchant ships and as usual justice bao saves the day. I also paid 10 yuan to see this stall keeper blow candy in the shape of animals. Its quite cool cos the animals look lifelike. And its edible too although after I ate it the afterthiought occured that its extremely unhygenic cos all his saliva droplets would be stuck on the insides of the animal. So I ate all the saliva droplets and did a weikiat.

That was this morning. We then went on a hovercraft ride on the Yellow River which was quite a rip off 'cos there was nothing to see.

Speaking of which, the chinese are going to be extremely wealthy from tourism. Everything you see costs money. And we're not talking cheap admission fees. We are talking about european level admission fees. Visit an authors former home: 45 yuan. Visit the grottos: 60 yuan. Hovercraft ride: 65 yuan. Visit terracota warriors: 90 yuan. Visit national park: 60 yuan. You get the idea. Tourism here is where to be to make money. This current lousy tour guide wears a HK$2000 watch.

I just looked at a photo of me and my face looks like a full moon ie I'm bulbous. I'm going on a diet when I get back. Every meal has 10 courses over lunch and dinner. 9 days - I will have eaten 180 dishes..and that doesn't include the 24 different types of dumplings at xian. Help.

Over the course of the many days I've had the following beers, none of which are any good. All of them only have about 2.8% alcohol. So very light. And not tasty.

Baisha beer
Grand man beer
Harbin beer
Landmark beer
Hans beer
Luoyanggong beer - nice. Alcoholic
Dongsheng Goldenstarbeer
Bianjing beer

Family jewels

As if the toilets were not filthy enough, there was a guy squatting over a squat-type toilet grunting and sh!tting. Nothing wrong with that, except he left the door wide open and his family jewels and "magic sceptre" were dangling for all to see. Halfway grunting his mobile phone rang and he answered it and carried on a 5 minute conversation pausing to grunt while what I guess must have been passing a particularly difficult piece of log.

I was tempted to take a picture but thought it wouldn't be entirely polite to do so.

Chinese toilets are gross. I bet he won't flush after that.

Worst day - Luoyang

Today must be like the low point of the holiday. We travelled 300+ km taking about 6 hours on the bus wasting most of the day. On the highway, there were no toilets which meant that we stopped where we saw a brick wall, and all the men got off and peed behind the wall. There were half dried pieces of sh!t on the grass behind the wall. I almost puked. But peed like a horse nonetheless.

We arrived at luoyang at 330 and had lunch at 4 at this rather filthy restaurant.

After that, we rushed through some temple and visited some grottoes which is like holes in the wall where priests of a few hundred years ago carved huge and numerous statues of buddha and other godly consorts with these fiery auras around their head. These were awesome and reminded me of that show which name I can't remember but stars michelle yeoh with a fake-o accent and filed in the caves of dunhuang.

Then we were told that we wouldn't fly back direct from our final destination as promised. Instead we will travel all the way back from zhenzhong to xian which is a journey of some 500+km and which will take away an entire day of sightseeing and wil result in my travelling for 2 days non stop follwoed by work the next day. Exxtremely tiring.

Now at the hotel. The aircon doesn't seem to work so its hot as h3ll. We borrowed a fan from the hotel.

Tired. Tmr morning 615 wske up. Adios.

Day 5 - xi'an

18/4/05

As a continuation of my earlier post I neglected to mention that there are tons of ang moh tourists.

After the 24 jiaozi dinner which was so filling I almost exploded, the tour guide bought me and my mom our birthday cake to celebrate my 18th birthday and my mom's 52nd birthday. I wonder what course I shall do at university...

After dinner we had a song and dance show which I thought was interesting but was actually mediocre. Was hoping for more song but there was only dance....zzzzz I dozed off. The place was filled with ang mohs in suits and all dressed up while we were poorly dressed. The angmohs all clapped very enthusiastically. I dozed off.

Tomorrow is another 6 am. We are headed to the city of Luoyang to see the peony flowers bloom. I'm under orders to take pictures for my boss.

Speaking of which, I'm very pleased with my new fuji camera. The pics are very nice and its usable up to iso 400 which on my other cameras would turn out to be crappy pictures full of noise. Maybe I've maligned fuji over the years haha.

Need to sleep. Adios.

Xi'an

The contrast between xi'an and zhangjiajie could not be more striking. For one, I saw my first fat local, like, as fat as me. The tour guide now has a small pot belly and is slightly balding, and I saw advertisements of a chrysler jeep in the lift as well as audis, bmw 730iL on the road. Finally, I am now stuck in a traffic jam, and there are people all over going in all directions. All the markings of a big city, and no wonder, for it is said that xi'an (or its old name changan) is one of the 5 big cities of china, the others being luoyang, nanjing, beijing and one more I can't remember.

I also ate my first ice cream of the trip. It tasted soooo good. Magnum...yum. Expensive though at 10 rmb.

Saw the terracotta warriors which is awesome in the level of detail put into the creation of these sculptures. There are 8000 warrioors, and no two are identical ie they are not made from casts. The level of detail goes down to the lifelines on the palms, and that a middle officer and the general has a slight pot belly compared to the average soldier to take into account the fact that they havve less physical exercise than the common soldiers. The proportions are extremely accurate, which means that every warrior is a piece of art. Amazing.

Also visited some concubines habitat which had this naked sculpture of the concubine and I saw a perverted hk-ie take a picture grabbing her ample buxom (sp?) From afar.

One old man on the bus thought I was 18. Which is good. Another auntie called me ah boy. I guess next to these oldies I look like an elixir of youth. It doesn't help that I'm obsessed with my blackbeery thumbing the characters away which loks like I'm obsessed with a gameboy.

Dinner beckons. We are going to eat 24 different types of jiaozi. Yummmmm.....the noodles at lunch were fantastic, the texture and all, so this should be good. This region, shaanxi is famous for noodles.

Adios.

Zhangjiajie - conclusion

We are now at the airport waiting for our flight to xian which is delayed. The airport is far too overwhelemd by the number of people flying out tonight. 80%. Of the people here are korean. There were 8 counters dealing with what must be at least 1000 fliers. The luggage check in was a nightmare. Oh. And S boarding gates so you can imagine the joy we must be having. Thank goodness for the blackberry. I think I'm buying one when I get back.

Anyway, my concluding thoughts for the day:

1. Mad driving and horns
The chinese drivers seem to be obsessed with horning. I don't know whether its meant to be a way of warning oncoming trafffic on the narrow roads, or whether its a way of telling everyone "get the *#?! Out of my way".

2. Lugging
People seem to be manually lugging things everywhere.

3. Rice wine
I had a taste of rice wine this morning. They were selling it for 50 RMB cents for a cup. It had abbout 48% alcohol so we just had a sip. Tasted like crap but the aftertaste was amazing. Like wasabe wafting through your nostrils except this was a rice kind of smell and aftertaste. Very nice.

4. Bridges
I love bridges and how they stretch over huge expanses of water and connect the distinct geographical regions.

5. Pop star
Apparently, one of the members of the group whom the snoring roommate belongs to is a singer whose cds are selling like hot cakes in singapore. He sings old chinese songs from the 70s and 80s. I can't rememmber his stage name. Lin something. Will the surprises never cease. He gave one of the cds to the videographer who was so pleased that he kept thanking him "xie xie da ge!!!!!!" And then kept glued to him after that bombarding him with questions. He seemed genuinely pleased.

I wonder how much he gets paid. He sold the video to members of the group for RMB 200. Photos went at RMB 20 each. These were the photos that he took over the course of the two days while he was with the group. The photos were actually very well taken. I think for everyone he sells for the fcompany he gets a small commission. he said he couldn't give any discount for the photos because the company would deduct it from his salary. Every photo is accounted for. Exploitative company I say. But I guess if he didn't have this job, he'd have no job at all so a job is better than no job.

Ok I'm dying of suffocation here. The plane is at least half an hour delayed. By the time we get to our hotel in xian it will be at least midnight. I hope tomorrow is not another 6 am day...I may need another holiday to recover from my holiday.

Feng Huang

We just visited this charming town called Feng Huang which translated is Phoenix City. Too bad we didn't stay long enough. It's my favourite place so far. It was unfortunately swarming with tourists.

I just found out my local tour guide is only 24. I think I have a crush. Unfortunately she doesn't speak english and I don't speak mandarin. She's rather eloquent and knowledgeable and would make a great mom someday I'm sure.

Speaking of which, the miao2 zhu3 people (or was it just the hunanese people? My memory fails me)  have this fascinating method of courtship. According to the twenty percent chinese which I could understand, the guy will step on the heels of the girl he fancies. if she doesn't fancy him, she will turn around and break out in song with scolding lyrics (shan1 ge1 aka mountain song). Likewise if she likes him she will sing another mountain song and they live together happily ever after. The miaozhu women are apparently very hardy, and if you marry one, the tour guide says you have a free and willing washing machine, child bearer, house cleaner etc etc. Where have I been all my life???

Woe betide you if you cheat on one of these women. The story (fact?) goes that they will poison you with something that will kill you in a length of time that corresponds inversely with what they suspect you did. If its severe, you'll die in a year. The poison is uncurable and I think untraceable.

Anyway I thought the mountain song thing was fascinating and everyone seems to do it, even the boatmen, and its all very spontaneous. Its a competition between the man and the woman, and the story further goes that this is another way of courtship. If you outsing the woman (ie with such clever lyrics that she is unable to respond wittily enough) she's yours. Its like those spontaneous poetry games the malays have. Fascinating.

The funniest incident was this morning when we were on a river cruise 3 boats abreast and there was this ah mei (apparently here you only call prosti tutes xiao jie) singing mountain songs to all the boats passing by. Its her job lah. So anyway someone decided to make us all sing ah niu's dui mian de nu hai kan guo lai. And we all did it offkey and she responded with the same song with slightly different lyrics that I couldn't catch.

And the our tour guide sang a song to the boatman who then responded with a song that he has a wife waiting for him at home. Its all very funny.

Anyway all these men singing seem to be natural tenors hitting high As and Cs effortlessly. Maybe its the mountain air in which case I should relocate and I'll be pavarotti in a few years.

Yikes the bumpy bus ride is making me nauseous from looking at the keyboard so adios for now.

YL says WK misses me. Awwwwwwwwww haha.

Oh I bought some multiflavoured white rabbit sweets last night. So far can't find anything eelse interesting to buy.

Day 3 - even more exhausted

Another day spent climbing mountainous regions, navigating limestone caves, walking and walking and eating "salt free" and "oil free" food. Oh and not speaking any english. Someone please email me in english.

Anyway, new words for the day:

"Chang4 ge1" - go to the toilet

"Chang4 yi chang4 ge1" - have a pee or two.

"Zhu1 bao3" - jewellery. I thought it meant pearls.

"Kong1 tiao2" - environmental modifier aka air conditioner. Why? Because it also blows hot air.

New educational experiences of the day:
- chinese people comprise 3 tribes. The han4 tribe, and 2 other tribes I can't remember.

- I should learn how to be humble like the Chinese. I think I might be too proud for my own good. The videographer (the one who asked about the 10 ringgit note) is so humble he puts me to shame.

I haven't met a singaporean yet! What a treat haha

Day 2 - Ezhausted

This must be the most exhausting trip ever. I swear I'll never go on a tour again, unless it's with people my own age. I've not spoken english the entire day, forced to converse in my smattering putonghua. The nearest aged person is at least 35 and who only speaks cantonese. The food is "oil free" and "salt free". No one eats ice cream here and no one drinks coffee. I've not spent a single cent because there's absolutely nothing that I've seen that I remotely want. Sobs. I miss Bremen...

Woke up at 6 after waking up 3 times  the night before from ye old Boeing-taking-off snorer. Breakfast at 645 am. Start trip at 730 am. Hike until 1 pm. Lunch. Hike somemore. And more. And more bus rides herding us around. Dinner at 730. There's a cultural show but I'm not watching because I want to go back and sleep. It's 6am again tomorrow.

I must say that tour guides deserve a lot of respect. They walk around more than we do. Have to constantly keep tabs on the 20 plus people group, secure tickets and transport, and in top of that smile all the time talk rubbish and be sily and comical. It must be tough.

I have a new secvretary come Monday. Happy birthday to me I say.

Clever chinese

I just met a very clever boy of about 15. He saw a 10 ringgit note. But he didn't ask how many rmb that is. Instead, he asked, what can you buy with this? I don't think I was that clever at 15.

I mean, how many people do you know who know how to ask the worth of money as opposed to its numerical value? I wonder I fthis is the product of its communist past and the necessity to barter. Regardless, I am extremely impressed.

Koreanisation

I wonder if there are a lot of korean tourists...a lot of signs seem to be in korean and some of the shopkeepers seem to speak excellent korean

"Lades and zhentleman, we have arrived at ggoangjhou airport"

Mas small planes suck.

Help

Morning call is at 6 am...breakfast at 6.45am. This is like boot camp...

Zhangjiajie

Phew. Arrived safely aboard china southern airlines.

It's true what they say. Chinese women are really very beautiful. They look so cute in uniform on their bicycles. My local tour guide doesn't look too bad either. Unfortunately the entire tour is being conducted in mandarin and I'm catching no ball. Its embarassing to have to turn to my mom and ask in english "what'd she say?"

Oh well. At least I have my blackberry to keep me occupied.

Such rosy cheeks...

Ah her name is xiao3 zhong1. I should've brought a dictionary.

Guangzhou airport

The chaos that is guangzhou airport...I have a headache...a member of the tour group is missing. I feel like a cow being herded through the airport.

Snores like a boeing 747

I'm doomed. My roommate snores like a jetplane on steroids. I don't know how to bring it up to him. He has this tattoo on he's back that looks like the one from hannibal so perhaps I should shut up.

Moo

At ye old sleazy massage parlour I felt like a piece of kobe beef being massaged. I'm sure all my fats must be well distributed by now and I must be as tender as a new born baby. Steak anyone?

So today was rather eventful. Having arrived at KL Sentral (yes that's with an 's') I got home read the papers and went to sleep. Woke up, went lunch with mum then went to see the tailor. I swear its as expensive here as in singapore. Think I'm going to make a trip to bangkok to make my shirts and trousers. The trousers are about half price in bangkok.

at lunch we saw this town council van waiting. The soya bean stall man said they were waiting to collect bribes from the vcd seller. I was shocked. True enough 5 minutes later this youngish man went to the van and I saw him pass them something. I don't know what's worse, that there isn't a fricking uncorrupt civil servant in the country or that if they weren't corrupt there'd be no pirated stuff.

Anyway after tailor we went to become kobe beef.

Tomorrow I fly off to guangdong.

I read that xbox 2 is coming out this year. Can't decide whether I want one. PSP looks pretty good too.

Its 1030 pm and the kobe meat is feeling sleepy after its massage. Such is the life of the pampered. Think I shall make a trip to bkk filled with nothing daily but make clothes, massage and sleeping at 9 pm. Very therapeutic.

I art arriveth

"Ding ding ding good morning ladies and gentlemen, we will be arriving kl sentral station shortly. All passengers are kindly requested to wait until the train stops before alighting. Please ensure that you have not left anything behind. For your convenience taxis are available..."

Can't remember the rest. The grammar is wrong somehow.

I'm all bleary eyed not having had enough sleep.

What shall I have for breakfast? I think a plate of chee cheong fun would hit the spot...I'm going to get extremely fat.

Amazing race

I feel as if I just finished a bout of amazing race. I underestimated the time it would take me to go from tampines to jb. To make it worse, I had no ringgit with me. As I crossed the border, it was 11.20 pm and the train was leaving at 1130 pm...I stopped for a minute, wondering whether I could make it to the maybank atm to draw money. I saw the train waiting at the station...crap....decided to pray that they woukd accept credit card. No such luck...in my best malay, and I was surprised it all came out so fluently, I told her I didn't have a single ringgit. She said I could pay in sing dollars...at some crappy rate...what to do the train was about to leave in 2 minutes...I got on the train and one minute later it started moving... Talk about cutting it thin...or I would have had to sit the stupid bus home...

KL here I come!!!

Day 1

Was supposed to leave in the afternoon today but decided to sleep and laze instead. This Blackberry experience is starting to be quite addictive. I find myself having this compulsive urge to check my emails every hour or so. I think I must have spent about ab hour working today just checking emails and making calls. Yet because I'm at home it doesn't feel like work at all.

So anyway this nifty piece of machine means that I can now blog on the go while I'm on holiday. If any of you want to contact me drop me a mail on my office address. Jimmy has it. Look forward to hearing from all.

Unfortunately this machine is only on loan for two weeks =(...

Earthquake

Eeps...Just found out that there was an Earthquake in Sumatra. No wonder when I was in the office just now I thought I was getting dizzy....it wasn't me. The building was moving. But since the cupboards weren't shaking (like the one the other day measuring 8.7 - which freaked my out a bit) - I ignored it.

Ramblings

Sometimes I feel as if my youth is slipping away from my grasp and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. Totally forgot about this gathering we were supposed to have today 'cos I was at work clearing files before I go off on Tuesday. Ok so I spent half the time surfing. But still, I did SOME work.

On the brightside, I bought a new digital camera today. Fuji E550. Comes highly recommended from DPreview. Originally had wanted to buy the Olympus C770 or the Panasonic Lumix FZ5, but decided against it because the Olympus C770 is made in China, while the Panasonic Lumix FZ5 is a little large and therefore not that suitable for travelling.

Points for Fuji: they now come with 3 years warranty, and uses AA batteries.

Reasons for refusing a Canon: my previous Canon A70 died after 1.5 years which is exceedingly short for a product from Canon. Plus I had to send it for repair 3 times during the time it was under warranty. I suspect it's because it was made in Malaysia whereas my Ixus 330 (first ever digicam) was made in Japan. Therefore this time round we were looking for something made in Japan.

On another note, NOBODY seems to find my Cow/udder analogy funny!! WHY??? I thought (and still think) that it's hilariously funny!!!! Nobody has a sense of humour. Here's how it goes:

"Sometimes at work I feel like a Cow in a factory being milked dry of all my worth by these milking machines. And when I'm dry, I get milked somemore just in case there's that one last drop to be milked. My udders are bruised / sore."

Or some variation of the sort.

On Tuesday I'm going back to Malaysia. On Thursday I'm flying off to China on some tour thing with Mom and Pops. Hence the camera purchase. Because I refuse to pay the single supplement and because triple sharing is the same price as double sharing and usually the triple bed comes with crap mattress, and because my mom snores and wakes up at obscene hours in the morning (like 7 am) to repack her bags and shuffle plastic bags around, I'm going to be rooming with some strange Malaysian man. WK would be pleased to change places with me I'm sure. I think I snore too. Hope he doesn't mind. Hope he's not a nasty Malaysian. Then again, that's an oxymoron.

I'm hoping to sponge a Blackberry from work on the pretext that I need to access my e-mails / remain contactable in China throughout my 2 weeks. The reality is that I want to blog on the go!!!! BUAHAHAHAHA - I just tested the blogging by e-mail function (see below) and it seems to work. I also want to be writing personal e-mails. hahaahha. so much for work. So I hope to keep all you guys updated about my trip via trusty Blackberry.

Unfortunately, the company's e-mail system crashed on Friday so I don't know if they have the manpower on Monday to set up the Blackberry thing. Think the IT department has been working overtime and all hours of the day throughout the weekend fixing it. I think it's worse off to be them than to be me. Back office people are seldom appreciated.

Right. Off I go home now.

Peanut Butter hair

In the spirit of new experiences I decided to try Hair Wax to see what the big fuss is about. Saw it in a magazine somewhere that wax is the way to go and is supposed to be better for your hair whereas I read/heard somewhere else that hair gel (expecially those radioactive looking ones which I love so much) makes your hair drop. I don't know why, but the more radioactive a gel looks, the better it works.

After buying it, I consulted the King of Hair Wax, Mr. Lim WK on how to apply it. Problem 1: Apparently, it doesn't go well into wet / damp hair. Asked does that mean I should stop bathing in the morning before I go to work, he says: "but you don't have that much hair what, just dry it properly". Thanks...

So this morning I bathed, and waited like 10 mins for my hair to dry which is freaking troublesome and then I put it on and discovered the following things on the way to work very late (as I was waiting for the hair to dry):

1. I felt a piece of bread smeared with peanut butter on top.
2. My hair / head felt blocked.
3. I smelt FLORAL. Fortunately, the floral smell disappeared after a while. I think it's supposed to be citrus but think they overdid the fragrance.
4. It doesn't hold as well as gel. I may have put too little, but I refer to point 1 and 2 as justification.

Let's try again tomorrow.

Virginal experiences are always so interesting.

Speaking of peanut butter I now feel like Eric Cartman with Butters' hair.

*SOBS* SO THIS IS WHAT MY FRIENDS HAVE BEEN UP TO!!!!!

This is what my pilot-to-be friend is up to in Perth

Quote

After that, we decided to go to a strip bar. Yes, pick up your jaws from your toes, I said it right. Just like the movie Closer, there were poles, bar tops, and stark naked girls prancing around the place. Their pole dancing will put our RH pole dancers to shame. They should get a few pointers by coming over here. Maybe OAC can arrange an outing over here. There was a cover charge of 5 dollars, and if you want "stuff" to happen, you buy 1 dollar coupons from the counter to tip the dancers who will do "stuff" for you. And my good friend decided to tell one of them that it was my birthday, which by the way, isn't, and I got a faceful of boobs. Thanks a bunch. Actually, not bad boobs too. Haha.

Unquote

This was my neighbour back in hall who decided that it's all good and well studying electrical engineering, but the job was boring as ****, and therefore decided to go train to be a pilot. If he finishes his course his starting pay is rumoured to be higher than mine. Damn. Look what they do for a living.

$5 cover charge is cheap. And dollar coupons to tip???? One would've thought he's in Thailand or something.

Where the **** did all my money go?????

Fixed costs:
Rent: $400
Computer loan: $100

Ok where did all the rest of my money go? Bleah.

Going to China on 14th April. So I'll be spending my birthday in a foreign land. I'm just tagging along the trip with my parents. Staying in a separate room with some stranger. Hope that's not weird and hope the fella doesn't mind my snoring which I'm sure I do.

Wonder if I shall take my mom's instructions to "spend more of your dad's money since the more he has the more useless/stupid things he buys" seriously. But it's China. How much can I spend???

Tour is with fellow M'sian ppl. Hope they're not boring kiasu shitheads. I need beer kakis on the trip. Qingdao here I come!!! Come to daddy!!!

I've been in the office for an hour supposedly to do my work but I haven't done any. What a waste of time. Got to do work.

Contrary to what orangecow says, I'm not a workaholic. Never was. I'm about as lazy as they get. Unfortunately, being brought up in this strict and inflexible education system culminating in the title of A.N.U.S. (Alumnus of NUS), I also respond very well to orders, whether I like it or not. So bark me an order and I tend to follow it. I.e. if you pass me a piece of work and say this is yours, I've got to finish it. I bet I'd do damn well in the army.

[Name], LL.B (Hons), A.N.U.S. - that should appear on my card.

Having read Andromean's blog I am jealous of all the crap that he gets up to. My sis is having the same lot of fun in the UK. Says the netball team that she participated in beat the other university's team 20-2. And says she likes coxing 'cos she enjoys barking orders at ppl. And for the uninformed, coxing is ROWING, nothing filthy.

BLEAH. All I ever did at my uni was have supper and go for choir. Oh, and skip class. What a wasted 4 years that was.

Right. It's now 4.52 pm. I should fill up my water bottle, and carry out my orders.

Hail Hitler!

Friday Evenings and Nights

are absolutely depressing. Usually I'm stuck in the bloody office till god knows when so obviously I want dinner. But there's NOONE to ask for dinner because:

1. colleagues:
"it's Friday night! I have a life!", i.e. going off early somewhere far from office

2. friends from other companies:
please see response 1 above.

3. friends.
nowhere near Raffles Place. Please also see response 1 above.

I refuse to ask this guy on my floor from my batch who's a workaholic and therefore always in the office and therefore always available for dinner.

One of my colleagues has today qualified to be AHG4. She has resigned and for some reason now looks very good. Maybe it's that warm fuzzy aura knowing that the shackles of work shall soon be released, thereby making the entire face light up, thereby projecting a sense of glowing happiness, thereby adding to looking good.

I am starving right now.
